A Bit of History
GEICO has been around for decades being founded in Texas back in 1936 by Leo and Lillian Goodwin. The is actually an acronym, which stands for Government Employees Insurance Corporation.
The back then when the company was founded was to provide affordable auto insurance for military and federal employees. Business was good even though there were a few minor setbacks through the years.
It reached its landmark 1 millionth policy in 1964. They their advertising efforts in 1993. The 2000 was the time when the company’s gecko mascot got flaunted pretty much everywhere.
The company was later purchased by Berkshire Hathaway. Note that Warren Buffet invested in the company .
The company to all 50 states in 2009. And in 2016 it became the second largest insurer in the country. State Farm is at the top of the heap.






Cheapest Car Insurance in the Country

Age is one of the biggest for all auto insurance companies. That means the younger the driver the more costly your premiums get. GEICO offers more affordable policies than most.




For instance, a 17 year old will have to pay a total of $6,000 on average with GEICO, a little more affordable compared to other insurers.




When 25, the price drops significantly. Annual premiums can drop down to $2,200 (figure rounded off) when a young driver reaches that age.





Not a That Friendly to People with Poor Credit History
It’s not that they don’t people with bad credit scores. All other auto insurance companies do the same. The thing with GEICO is that they charge you as much as $1,000 extra if you have poor credit history. Nevertheless, GEICO’s rates are still lower even for customers with bad credit.

Our Recommendation
If you’re for one of the most affordable cheap auto insurance full coverage then GEICO should be in your top 10. We recommend it for younger drivers and older drivers as well (i.e. those who are in their 60s).
You can consider them you have bad credit history. They have the 3rd lowest rates in the country. But USAA and Nationwide have better offers so check them out as well.
